Part Time Offices
Part Time Offices (For Your Full Time Crazy Life)
By: Lyndsey Walthall
Here’s the thing about the new normal: it isn’t normal. You’ve got your spouse/roommate/partner around 24/7, trying to get their own schedule straight, and if you’ve got kids, I have heard horror stories about how that’s going. But despite it not being the normal that you and I both knew prior to last year, it’s the normal for now. Will it always be this way? No, certainly not. Are you still going crazy right now, at this very moment? Why yes, yes you are.
Mental health is important. Acknowledging your mental health is even more important. If you’re having an off day, if the things that normally make you happy are making you miserable, if you’re irritable and overwhelmed and don’t feel like talking to anyone, that’s okay. We’ve talked about the importance of changing the scenery, of trading the cobwebs in your kitchen for something new. So if you wake up one day and decide the makeshift office in your bedroom isn’t cutting it, come hang with us! You can grab one of our part time offices, get your work done and interact with another human being. (Plus I have been told by many, many people that the fountain in our lobby is quite relaxing…)
The beauty of the part time office is that it allows you a place to work that isn’t the place you’ve been forced to work for the past year. Personally, I’m a writer, and while I successfully wrote two books last year during quarantine at my apartment, I’m finding revising at home to be much more difficult. If you’re in a similar boat—or just having an off day, like we said earlier—cut yourself some slack. Spend a couple hours with us (my coworker and I are fantastic people), maybe treat yourself to your favorite coffee (iced vanilla with half and half anyone?), then come evening, you’ll return home feeling more like you. We promise!
