Let’s Get Social
Let’s Get Social
By: Lyndsey Walthall (Blog 22)
There’s no denying it—social media has become quite prominent. Not just in our personal lives, but in business, too. Everybody has an Instagram; several companies have even taken the leap to TikTok. (I promise we’re looking into this.) Logically, you’re interested in putting your company out there, too, but how? And which platforms?
Let me preface this by saying I am by no means a professional. However, handling my company’s social media has been a fun experience, and I’d like to think I’m more knowledgeable now than I was in the beginning. My biggest piece of advice? Find other companies in your market and watch what they do. Seriously! Pay attention to how they phrase things, how they utilize hashtags, what times they post, etc. It’s a great way to teach yourself the ropes while figuring out what does and doesn’t work for your business.
Develop a schedule and stick to it! I update my company’s social media accounts twice a day—once in the morning, once in the afternoon. Blog posts get written every Friday. Maintaining a presence is crucial not just to grow your audience, but to keep your existing one engaged. And don’t be afraid to mix things up! Sure, the goal is to sell your product, but you don’t have to make the same kinds of posts over and over. Redundancy is boring. I recommend Canva. The free version offers a variety of customizable templates, fonts, royalty free pictures, you name it. Or, for just a few dollars a month, the pro version gives you the option of adding animation—which has been a big hit for us! A touch of movement is a fun way to spice up any post.
So get started now! Pick a platform, see what other people are posting, then get creative. As long as you keep your followers engaged and interested in your product, the sky’s the limit.
